Academic titleMSc/Pg Diploma/Pg Certificate Health and Social Care Leadership
Course descriptionThe programme draws upon relevant contemporary academic research, applied in the local, complex and dynamic health and social care context. Key features of the programme are: the need to understand structures, cultures and individual and group behaviour in complex health and social care organisations; the development of leadership roles; the focus on clinical governance; the need to understand the dynamic employment relationship and emerging approaches to managing and developing the workforce. The programme provides a coherent personal developmental plan for existing and aspiring leaders and managers who are significant agents in delivering a high quality, innovative health and social care service.
The structure of the overall Masters course provides a flexible programme, with a common first year where students follow modules relevant to the broader health and social care context, addressing issues of social and behavioural sciences, health economics, research methods and statistics, for example. The second year provides the specialist programme in Health and Social Care Leadership with four core modules: Organisational Behaviour; Leadership, Quality, Innovation and Change; Managing and Developing People; and Investing in a Valued Workforce. The final element of the programme is a dissertation in a leadership/management-related discipline which provides participants with an opportunity to integrate and apply themes from these modules within their own context thus leading to the award of an MSc in Health and Social Care Leadership.
