Entry requirements
This part-time, flexible course is aimed at qualified nurses and health visitors who have a clear commitment to advancing the discipline of nursing. It will encourage you to scrutinize aspects of your own practice, the social and political agenda that drives this practice, and to consider the potential impact on this of new ways of thinking. -Critically evaluate your own professional practice -Develop the analytical and problem solving skills to answer the most difficult questions facing health care today -Handle complex and often unpredictable information -Discover how national policy, health care commissioning and individual practice are influenced by research and clinical audit -Reflect on nursing practice to improve your performance and empower others to do the same

Course description
Political drivers, such as Agenda for Change and Liberating the Talents, have raised awareness that a higher degree is necessary if you want to be at the forefront of modernisation within nursing.
You can exit the course with a variety of awards depending on how many credits you accrue:
Course content
Modules begin in September and February each year and applications can be made all year round. The full Masters course is made up of 2 core and 2 optional modules and a dissertation.
Core modules:
-Elements of Nursing: Analyse and deconstruct contemporary nursing and develop creative and innovative ways of problem-solving
-Research Methods: Develop a rigorous approach to the process of research and prepare for the dissertation/research project
-Optional modules include:
-Accountability in Professional Care: Develop a critical awareness of professional accountability in health and social care and explore key issues within the modernisation agenda using legal and ethical frameworks
-Collaboration in Health and Social Care: Explore the professional, political, financial and ethical issues which influence the development of a collaborative approach to health and social care
-Effective Leadership and Strategic Management: Develop the skills and knowledge of leading people through complexity and focus on management issues within your own workplace
-Evidence Based Practice:Develop an in-depth knowledge of evidence based practice and the process involved in its implementation
-Health Care Policy and Politics: Analyse your practice in the light of current political and economic ideology relating to health care
-Independent Learning: Propose, negotiate, create and carry out learning that cannot be achieved through existing taught components
