ObjectivesThe Scottish Centre for Chinese Studies has an international reputation for research excellence in modern Chinese literature, media and mass culture. This programme aims to provide postgraduates with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of cultural issues of modern China and to develop their analytical skill to apply theories of cultural studies and literary theories in the cultural context of China.
Entry requirementsEntry Requirements Modern Chinese Cultural Studies (curriculum A) is for candidates with a good BA honours or equivalent qualification in Chinese.

Course descriptionLearning Outcomes
Students will be thoroughly trained in studying modern Chinese texts and in assessing them in the context of current academic discourse in Chinese Studies. They will be able to understand changing perceptions of key issues in Chinese cultural studies and reflect critically on their own academic research.
How You Will Be Taught
Students take two core courses in the form of seminars in Chinese Cultural Studies and Media Studies, as well as research skills courses. Seminars are taught for two hours per week on a flexible lecture/seminar basis. Apart from the language course, assessment is by one essay per semester per module.
