ObjectivesInformation provided by economists is now regarded as an essential accompaniment to that provided by marine scientists and fisheries biologists and increasingly forms the basis of fisheries management and development plans. This course is, therefore, particularly suitable for those who have a background in applied economics, marine science or biology and who now wish to extend their professional expertise into an important and rapidly growing area. The course is also relevant to those involved in the governance of natural resources in developing countries, where fisheries and aquaculture have an important role in sustaining livelihoods. This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to: -collect and analyse the data required for an economic evaluation of marine living resources -identify the potential benefits from the effective use of the marine and coastal environment -assess the economic damage to marine resources caused by pollution incidents and natural hazards -develop management strategies that can improve the governance of marine fisheries and aquaculture

Course descriptionThe course is arranged in three consecutive stages consisting of various units of study with both full-time and part-time study options. The full-time route is completed over one year and the part-time route over two years. The course commences in October.
Each unit attracts a specific number of course credits, and the total of such credits defines the exit award.
