    Students will get a broad but integrated set of knowledge
    in order to enhance their capabilities of conceptualizing or
    performing HRM in a strategic manner.

    This postgraduate level course develops students’ understanding of HRM within a strategic context. The programme of studies will build a firm base for developing an advanced knowledge of the operation of HRM and personnel management at a strategic level. Such knowledge and skills will enhance students’ abilities to make a significant contribution to the effective management of people at work.

    The varied backgrounds of the teaching team and their range of
    research and consultancy activities ensure an appropriate blend of the academic and the practical perspectives.

    Course Content

    For the MSc Management of Strategic Human Resources you will normally study six modules at Stage 1, three double modules at Stage 2, followed by the dissertation at Stage 3. The Stage 1 modules for this scheme examine the following areas:

        * Strategic Accounting for Decision Making (10 credits)
        * Managing and Leading People (10 credits)
        * Research Methods for Management and Professional Development (10 credits)
        * Strategic Operations Management (10 credits)
        * Managing Human Resources in a Business Context (10 credits)
        * Managing Organisations (10 credits)

    Stage 2 modules consist of option modules and students have the opportunity to undertake any other Masters level HR module within the Faculty which contributes to a coherent programme of the award. The appropriateness of such study will be decided in conjunction with the Scheme Team and may be subject to timetabling constraints.

    Successful completion of the taught section allows progression to the Dissertation (60 credits)

    How To Study

    The course will be delivered by a combination of methods,
    including formal lectures, workshops, case-study analyses,
    discussion groups and multimedia presentations. The modules
    may be taught over a period of weeks or via intensive block
    delivery. During the certificate and diploma stages, students
    will be assessed by one or both of the following methods:
    written individual assignments or projects; an end-of module
    examination. During the MSc dissertation stage, students will
    complete a 20,000-word dissertation while working under the
    guidance of an allocated academic supervisor.

    Most successful graduates of this award can expect to pursue
    careers in HRM, industrial relations, training and development or
    related professional fields. Such professional positions are found
    throughout all sectors of the economy and all industrial sectors.
