  • Course description Financial institutions have been forced by the globalisation of trade and finance to engage in the international financial market. Without a knowledge and understanding of international banking theory, practice and procedure, finance managers cannot take the strategic steps required to restructure financial systems in order to operate effectively and efficiently in this new and evolving environment. The MSc. Management and Development of International Financial System will empower you to play a valuable role in this exciting field by developing your skills in the areas of banking and finance, with particular emphasis on the international dimension. The programme combines academic rigour with a policy orientation. The varied backgrounds of the teaching team and their range of research and consultancy activities ensure an appropriate blend of academic and practical perspectives. The programme also invites input from practitioners of major financial institutions with national and international roles.

    Students also have the opportunity to attend conferences as part of the programme. A recent example of this was the Small Business Finance and Banking Services in Emerging and Developing Countries conference . These conferences bring in speakers and delegates from a variety of overseas locations enabling students to discuss issues and make contacts

    Course Content

    For the MSc Management and Development of International Financial Systems you will normally study six modules at Stage 1, three double modules at Stage 2, followed by the dissertation at Stage 3. The Stage 1 modules for this scheme examine the following areas:

        * Strategic Accounting for Decision Making (10 credits)
        * Techniques of Data Analysis for Financial Markets (10 credits)
        * Research Methods for Management and Professional Development (10 credits)
        * Corporate Finance (10 credits)
        * Corporate Environment (10 credits)
        * Marketing Systems and Structures (10 credits)

    Stage 2 modules for this scheme examine the following areas:

        * Comparative Study of Financial Systems in Developing Countries (20 credits)
        * Multinational Operations in Finance and Banking (20 credits)
        * Option Module

    Students have the option at Stage 2 to undertake any other Masters level accounting module within the Faculty which contributes to a coherent programme of the award. The appropriateness of such study will be decided in conjunction with the Scheme Team and may be subject to timetabling constraints.

    Successful completion of the taught section allows progression to the Dissertation (60 credits)

    How To Study

    The whole degree requires one year of full-time study. There are two terms of taught programmes.
