    Applicants must normally have gained at least a lower second class honours in any academic discipline from a recognised institution, or an equivalent professional qualification. Exceptionally, applicants who do not satisfy the above requirements may be admitted at the discretion of the course committee. An interview may form part of the selection process.

  • Course description The MSc in International Tourism Development has been designed for students with non-cognate disciplines who wish to work primarily in the public sector of the tourism industry. The programme focuses on theoretical considerations in solving practical problems, issues and germane to the tourism industry. It explores the social sciences aspect of tourism and the relationship between tourism and the environment. Graduates pursue careers in policy making, strategic planning and development for tourism at a local and national government level. The programme is intended to facilitate a successful induction into analytical roles and supervisory positions in the tourism industry, and will deal with both the commercial and non-commercial side of tourism.

    Teaching and learning is student focussed and includes lectures, seminars, case studies and tutorials.

    Students are required to engage in independent research project of their own choosing comprising no more than 20,000 words.

    Sample topics: Tourism, Architecture & Globalisation: aesthetics, attraction and sense of place.
    Tourism in peripheral areas: an examination of Limavady and the Roe Valley.
