MSc International Business

  • Objectives The MSc International Business aims to foster a critical appreciation of the complexity and dynamism of the international business context and the forces shaping it. Students acquire the ability to apply theory, knowledge and skills to complex issues in an international dimension, developing an awareness of current issues, informed by practice and research in the field. In addition to a comprehensive understanding of business practices in an international context, this programme also imparts an appreciation of issues relating to cross-cultural communication, thus enabling students to interact and manage successfully in global business environments.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements: An Honours degree or equivalent and a good command of English as evidenced by IELTS (6.0), TOEFL (213 for the computer-based test and 79 for the internet-based test) or previous study in English. (Candidates who do not meet the language requirements may take an English course at the University prior to starting their programme.) Other qualifications, together with work experience, may also be acceptable. We also offer a pre-Masters programme. Information about this is available from the Admissions Service.

    Internationalisation has been one of the most important and pervasive forces of change in the environment of business in recent decades, and the MSc International Business will enable students to seize opportunities presented by the increasingly global environment. Based on a core curriculum of key themes in contemporary business, this programme provides the global perspective and competencies necessary for a career in international business and the expertise to enable the formulation of competitive strategies and operations. It is suitable for those with work experience as well as recent graduates. The programme content and structure have been designed to ensure that the MSc encapsulates current thinking and contemporary research. Students benefit from a programme which reflects the latest trends and requirements of international business, laying particular emphasis on the needs of the employer.

    FURTHER INFORMATION

    The programme is split into three semesters. The first two are teaching semesters and the third is spent working independently, with academic supervision, on the project or dissertation.

    ASSESSMENT

    Modules are assessed through a range of means, including coursework, examinations, presentations and group work, and all students complete a project or dissertation of 15,000–20,000 words.

    Outside speakers further enhance the MSc programme and enliven modules by relating their real-world experiences to provoke fresh insights into business practice. Company visits also provide firsthand experience of the UK business environment, bringing theory to life.
