Course description
A Master of Science, Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate programme for people who want to take responsibility and initiative for effective, enduring change for ecological sustainability and social justice. The programme is offered through a partnership between the Centre for Human Ecology and the Department of Geography and Sociology at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
The course
Human ecology is an interdisciplinary field that explores the individual, collective and transpersonal aspects of the human condition. It draws on the scientifically-informed and fundamental assumption that living in right and sustainable relationship within the ecologies of the Earth's threatened biosphere is a necessary condition of global survival and of human flourishing.
The programme comprises a foundation of two core modules addressing:
* Our species' impact on the biosphere, within a framework that acknowledges the inter-connectedness between the state of the planet and social and economic systems;
* The ways in which consciousness and cultures co-evolve, shape, and are shaped by, the physical, social, and mental environment;
* The contextualisation, analysis and active transformation of degraded environments, both physical and social.
