To provide up-to-date knowledge and understanding of all key aspects in the rapidly-developing field of avionic systems To give students experience of conducting a compact research project in a relevant area To prepare students for an industrial or academic career in avionics including the provision of suitable generic skills.

Entry requirements
Entry requirements Usually a 2:1 honours degree or equivalent, in a relevant subject discipline, from an approved institution. Applicants whose first language is not English are required to take a suitable test: IELTS, minimum score 6.5; TOEFL, minimum score 575, plus a score of 4.5 in the TWE, or minimum of 232 in the computer-based TOEFL.

MSc. in Avionic Systems
Modern avionics has been a catalyst to the significant growth in aviation, by facilitating safe and efficient high volume air transport. Advancements in modern Avionics have principally been the result of the significant developments in Electronic, Electrical, Control and Software engineering. Furthermore, the acceptance, by the aerospace industry, of the more-electric aircraft as more efficient and cost-effective alternative, will undoubtedly boost the impact of avionics on aviation.
The department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Sheffield have been one of the UK´s leading departments, which undertakes internationally leading research, as evidenced by the 5* rating it achieved in the last research assessment exercise, and aerospace research represents a significant proportion of its research activities. The modules in the programme are delivered by expert academic staff, who are active at the forefront of aerospace related research in many aspects of avionics systems.
The programme is designed to enable students to develop depth of knowledge and skills in various aspects of Avionic systems:

-Electromagnetic Compatibility
-Antennas, Radar and Navigation
-Flight Dynamics and Control
-Multi Sensor Data Fusion
-Distributed Real Time Control Systems
-Advanced Instrumentation
-Safety Critical Software Systems
These modules will be supplemented by a research project, the specifications of which will be drawn up in conjunction with industrial partners. The programme is suitable for students with a first-degree, in Electronic, Electrical, or Control Engineering and related subjects.
Admission Requirements
Students require a UK Bachelors degree or an equivalent international degree qualification to enter this programme. For students with degrees in Electronic/Electrical, Control/Systems, or Aerospace Engineering, a second or first class honours standard (or equivalent qualification) is required, with students holding a lower second equivalent being considered more carefully.
Applications are also welcome from graduates of most of the disciplines that involve a high degree of mathematical competence, such as Physics, Mathematics and other branches of Engineering. However, the equivalent of an upper second class honours degree is generally a minimum requirement. Those with industrial experience are considered on an individual basis. General University requirements regarding English qualifications must also be satisfied
