  • Course description There is an increasing demand for computer professionals who have the expertise needed to manage IT infrastructures in business, industry and other organisations. Our MSc ICT Management award will help meet this demand by providing its students with the relevant ICT knowledge,
    tools and techniques, making special reference to the implementation and administration of ICT systems and applications.

    We specifically offer a range of modules that cover the development, application and management of computer systems for industry and commerce. In particular, the course will make its students aware of current trends and advancements in ICT systems, with special attention given to legal, security and management issues.

    Course Content

    The modules you will study are:

        * ICT Management – critically explores how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Information Systems (IS) can improve operations and practices.

        * Principles of Computing – the fundamental principles and practices associated with ICT technology, computer programming and systems modelling.

        * Project Management and Research Methodology – project management techniques and tools using various research methods.
        * ICT Systems Development – current and developing data models and database systems, plus application of related concepts to conventional and advanced database systems.
        * Security Management – tools and techniques available to secure and manage, in a meaningful manner, an information system.
        * Computer Law – knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework within which information systems must operate.
        * Project – design, implementation and evaluation of an ICT system/application.

    How To Study

    In term-time, full-time students will usually spend 12 hours per week in lectures, tutorials and supervised computer practicals. However, it should be noted that some of the modules are taught in block-mode, where the module is delivered intensively during a single week. You will also need to spend time on background reading, research and assignments. During practical sessions you will have access to up-to-date multimedia/IT resources. You will undertake the individual project dissertation during the summer period.

    For the first two years of the course, part-time students attend classes for six hours per week during term-time. You also need to spend time on
    background reading, research and assignments. In year three, there are no formal lessons but you will meet up with your project supervisor on a
    regular basis. Most modules are assessed by coursework only, but some involve an end-of-module examination.

    Career prospects

    This is a practical course that will provide you with the skills needed to pursue a career in IT. In particular, you will gain ICT management, legal
    and security expertise that are of growing importance to many employers.
