Objectives
his programme aims to initiate and expand the students' understanding and knowledge of the theory and practice of film, and cultivate their love of cinema. It combines the study of film theory and criticism and the analysis of specific themes, movements and national cinemas, with a non-exclusive emphasis on Europe. It also aims to introduce students to Scotland's lively film culture, allowing them to network within their field.

Course description
Learning Outcomes
The programme is designed to make students familiar with major concepts of filmmaking and theories of film. It will provide them with analytical and critical tools for the investigation of individual films, to be discussed in relation to specific movements and genres as well as contexts of production and reception.
How You Will Be Taught
Students will take part in small-group seminars, and will be offered regular individual consultations with their supervisors in order to assess their progress. Training in research skills and research methods in film studies is included in the programme. Support in English is available to students who are non-native speakers.
