Course descriptionWhat will I learn?
The programme enables students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary in modern Environmental Public Health (EPH) practice and consists of the following modules:
Core Modules
-Risk – Nature and Assessment
-Environmental Health Issues
-Research Methods
-Tackling Health Inequalities
-Environmental Epidemiology
-Communicable Diseases
Two Options from:
-Air Pollution Control
-Diet and Health
-Occupational Health Management
-Water Resources Management
-Professional Practice Based Study
The MSc course is completed by a dissertation. In the case of part-time students, the dissertation is usually based in the workplace. Students not wishing to continue onto the dissertation project can be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental & Public Health if leaving the programme at this stage.
Teaching is by lectures, some delivered by visiting practitioners, fieldwork; site visits, seminars and tutorials. Students will also be provided with opportunities to review practical applications of environmental interventions designed to promote public health.
Assessment
Each module is assessed individually through coursework comprising individual essays or group reports and presentations.
Career progression
Graduates from the programme will be employed in environmental and public health practice in local authorities, the NHS, the voluntary sector or private companies
Entry Requirements
-An honours degree in any subject
-An ordinary degree, HNC or HND with relevant experience
-We welcome applications from students with alternative qualifications and/or significant relevant experience, subject to approval through a process of Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL).
-International students must provide evidence of proficiency in English - IELTS 6.0 band score or a score of TOEFL 550 or above (213 computer based) with a TWE of 4.0 are proof of this
