  • Course description This course will equip you with the knowledge and abilities to successfully identify, assess and manage environmental issues in an organisation through the application of environmental
    management principles. It is part of a group of MSc awards that cover the key areas of total quality, health and safety, and energy and environmental management. The emphasis on this programme is environmental management. You will specialise in your chosen subject area for your dissertation.

    You will benefit most from this course if you are a manager responsible for environmental issues, or you wish to develop an appreciation of the
    importance of environmental legislation, pollution control and impact assessment associated with the functions of your organisation.

    The course has been developed around staff expertise in the division, which is recognised by the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) as a Centre
    of Excellence for Quality in Education.

    Course Content

    You will complete six taught modules and a dissertation. The modules are:

        * Business Law
        * Research Methods and Professional Development
        * Corporate Management Systems
        * Environmental Management
        * Carbon Management and Environmental Control
        * Project Management and Techniques

    How To Study

    If you are studying full-time you will spend 12-14 hours per week in lectures, seminars and tutorials. Modules are studied in blocks on two
    days a week, so that two modules are completed every nine weeks. For part-time students the commitment is around six to eight hours on one
    day per week, with one module completed every nine weeks. For each module you will usually have to complete two assignments based on case studies or workplace scenarios, plus an examination. There will be group work, recommended reading and tutorials each week. Your final dissertation will be based in industry. Assessment is through a balance of examinations and assignments.

    Career prospects

    Graduates from this MSc will have the personal, intellectual, technical, business and legal skills necessary to manage environmental issues within
    a range of organisations. Graduates are likely to occupy senior positions.
