This programme is jointly organised by the Centre for Development Studies (CDS) and the Department of Sociology, Anthropology & Applied Social Sciences (SAASS). It aims to:
* provide analytical frameworks with which to approach the issue of environmental sustainability from both theoretical and policy-oriented perspectives;
* consider different approaches to the utilisation of key environmental resources and their relationships with sustained development strategies;
* consider appropriate governance arrangements for sustainability in the context of globalisation.
The MSc in Environment, Developmentand Globalisation addresses the needs of practitioners who take an active role in environmental projects, perhaps in a development context, or who advise on environmental and development policies at the national and/or international level.
Content
You will take four compulsory courses and two elective courses. You will write a dissertation of between 12,000 and 15,000 words, the preparation of which is supported by a compulsory programme of research training.
The compulsory courses are:
* Global ethnography (SAASS)
* Sustainability and global justice (SAASS)
* Policies for sustainability and development (CDS)
* Theory and principles of sustainability (CDS).
You will choose TWO electives from the following list:
