You will assimilate key ideas and concepts relating to risk management and, crucially, how these can be applied to the 'real world' of planning and responding to novel or unforeseen events. The course is the first of its kind in the UK and offers you the opportunity to combine cutting edge theoretical material with the study of practical scenarios and issues in Emergency Planning offered by the Cabinet Office's Emergency Planning College.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements A first or second-class honours degree or an acceptable equivalent professional qualification. Special consideration is given to applications from people with relevant work experience and knowledge.

    -Research Methods in the Study of Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management
    -Case Studies of Crises and Disasters
    -Models of Risk, Crisis and Disaster
    -Emergency Planning Management

    Teaching and assessment methods
    assessment comprising a written assignment of 4,000 words for each of the six modules studied. Each module lasts twelve weeks. Approximately five months are allowed to prepare and complete the dissertation. Students on this course are required to attend any three courses (except foundation level courses) at the Emergency Planning College in Easingwold, York.
