MSc-Diploma-Certificate East Asian Business

  • Objectives The MSc in East Asian Business is highly sought after by a range of different students: it is designed for those who studied East Asia as part of their undergraduate degree, as well as for those who studied another disciplines but who recently began to combine such knowledge with East Asia. Our graduates not only become business managers; they also seek to carve out a career at the cutting edge in finance, journalism, trade, education, international organisations, as well as becoming independent professionals. It is Sheffield´s track record in actually producing graduates with the knowledge and language skills that employers want, whether in the UK, Japan or more broadly throughout the world, that is the ultimate measure of the quality of the programme. This commitment to excellence has helped make Sheffield University one of the top ten universities in the United Kingdom, with a distinguished tradition of teaching and research excellence in East Asian Studies. If you are looking for quality, the kind of teaching quality the Higher Education Funding Council for England has endorsed as excellent, then come and join us in Sheffield. Yes, the MSc in East Asian Business is something slightly different, but it is a degree that will allow you to gain an understanding of the Asian business environment rather than simply a familiarity with the practical skills of management.

    Introducing the degree

Sheffield´s unique blend of in-depth analysis of the East Asian business environment and advanced business practice is the proven combination no MBA can match. Key options include functional language training in Chinese, Japanese or Korean, or specialized management options including modules on marketing, corporate finance, human resource management and e-business. We offer a well-tested method to study business which is grounded in conceptual understanding, practical knowledge, and, for those who wish it, East Asian language skills. It is an innovative degree, which will give you the knowledge and theoretical background to join our successful graduates, who are already employed on the cutting edge in various fields of business in Asia and Europe.

    East Asian Dynamism
East Asia will without doubt remain the most dynamic region for world business in the 21st century but this dynamism cannot be understood simply on the basis of a collection of piece-meal bits of knowledge about business. Practical knowledge is necessary and useful, but this knowledge takes on added value when deployed on the basis of a broader and deeper understanding of the East Asian political economy. That´s why our programme challenges you to think beyond the narrow confines of a particular business situation. We want you to acquire long-lasting tools, based upon social science methodology, so that you can succeed in business through a flexible and effective understanding of East Asia. You will also be given the opportunity to test your new skills, conceptual understanding, and language in challenging projects on business, and in a dissertation.
