  • Objectives Graduates with an MSc Digital Media will be equipped to seek employment in the fields of interactive Web design, asset management, multimedia project management, training applications development or media production.
  • Entry requirements The MSc Digital Media is designed for graduates who have some computing background but not necessarily a computing degree. For example, Arts students may wish to develop the computing experience and technical skills that they gained during an undergraduate Animation or Media Studies degree in order to further their creative range. Alternatively, students with a computing, software engineering or entertainment technology background would benefit from enhancing their technical skills with a thorough understanding of the business environment and creative opportunities that technology provides.

  • Course description The MSc in Digital Media may be studied full time over one calendar year or part time over three years.

    The course is designed for graduates who have some computing background (although not necessarily a computing degree) and who wish to extend their understanding and skills into the multimedia or entertainment industries. The programme considers theoretical, practical and technical aspects of technology in media production, incorporating:

    -Computer graphics techniques and applications
    -Digital audio
    -Multimedia asset production
    -Digital media software integration
    -Web design for interactive environments

    In order to prepare you for employment in a business environment and not just for a technical role, there are also core units in project management, research and communication techniques.

    The MSc Digital Media includes seven compulsory taught units

    -Computer Graphics Techniques and Applications
    -Digital Audio
    -Digital Media Software Integration
    -Website Design for Interactive Environments
    -Multimedia Asset Production
    -Project Management
    -Research and Communication Techniques. 

    You will undertake a substantial project where you will apply the skills and knowledge from the taught part of the course to a practical problem, usually supplied by local businesses or other external clients. In addition to the compulsory core units, there will be the opportunity to choose a further two optional specialist units from fields such as:

    -Artificial Intelligence
    -Training Applications with Knowledge
    -Media and Mobile Computing Applications
