  • Objectives Leading the way with a revolutuonary look at how the body and minds affects dance, the MSc Dance Science at the University of Wolverhampton provides a unique insight into the physical and psychological stresses to which a dancer is exposed By exploring the mechanics of dance movement, you look at promoting the health care of the dancer, prevention of injuries and optimal performance Specific concerns include the biomechanical, physiological, paediatric and neuromotor aspects of dance; nutrition; as well as psychological issues, whilst examining how we can prepare the dancer to develop as a performer within a multi-disciplinary framework University of Wolverhampton staff are among the very few experts in dance science worldwide, and have introduced the concept of the 'fit and healthy' dancer to complement traditional and well-established methods of dance training You can select from a variety of modules which can help you develop skills that are unique to your situation. Each module on the course is one-week intensive and delivered during the summer vacation period, which means you can plan your study effectively around your job, children and regular commitments The course combines dance practice with science and education in a way that allows you to meet the demands of today's dance environment You will develop specialist skills and awareness of changing trends in dance practice, and get the opportunity to increase your knowledge of physiology in relationship to dance training Excellent facilities include dance studios and extensive research laboratories Teaching and learning strategies include laboratory work, practicals, role-play, placements and lectures
  • Entry requirements You need to have a good Honours degree or equivalent 5 years appropriate experience - substantial professional experience can substitute for graduate status We look for graduates with an appropriate Honours degree in dance subjects Graduates from other discip;ines eg. performing arts may still be eligible for entry You should also have a good standard of written and spoken English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent)
