Course description
The main emphasis of this course is on the effective use, design and development of software for information systems. It is designed for
students who have little or no previous experience of computing or information technology, and one of its major strengths is the opportunity it provides for you to combine knowledge gained during the award with your previous knowledge and experience.
The award will provide up-to-date knowledge and understanding coupled with professional and technical skills that relate to the development, management and usage of information systems
applications in a variety of organisations.
Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. The programme will be of interest if you plan to move into the computing and information systems field, or if you have found that computing is playing an increasing role in your work environment. Graduates have a very strong record in gaining employment. This course is accredited by the British Computer Society
and gives exemption from its Diploma and Diploma Project examinations.

The modules you will study are:

* ICT Management
* Project Management and Research Methodology
* ICT Systems Development
* Software Development
* Networked and Distributed Systems
* Project
It may be possible to substitute modules from other Masters programmes within the University or from final-year modules offered on the degree scheme in Computing.
How To Study
If you are studying full-time you will spend 12 hours per week in classes (half of this time will be practical work). If you choose to study part-time, time spent in class will be about six hours a week. You will also need to work independently on reading, coursework assignments and other computer-related activities. Several modules are assessed entirely through coursework and some involve coursework and an examination.
Career prospects
Graduates from this award have a very strong record in gaining employment. You could develop a career as an analyst programmer, database developer or network administrator. The skills and knowledge you gain on the course are directly relevant to industry so you become more employable. The course is suitable for people who want to develop their career or progress to doctoral study.
