MSc Community Pharmacy

  • Objectives A course developed to meet the needs of practising community pharmacists as they respond to the increasing challenges in their professional role. The course will facilitate active involvement with the pharmaceutical care of patients and help them to work more effectively as part of the health care team. It will develop their clinical and professional skills and knowledge to enable them to play a full role in the provision of pharmaceutical care. The course will also provide a formal means of recording Continuous Professional Development, which is likely to be requirement of the RPSGB in future years.
  • Entry requirements This programme would suit individuals who have recently completed their pre-registration training or are contemplating developing their professional role. Designed for practising community pharmacists, this course will facilitate active involvement with the pharmaceutical care of patients and help them work more effectively as part of the health care team. It will develop their clinical and professional skills and knowledge to enable them to play a full role in the provision of pharmaceutical care.

  • Course description The course offers flexible learning and offers students the opportunity to select units for individual study and to undertake the programme at their own pace - for example, to take the PgC over 2 years.

    The course is subject to continuous assessment by written assignment plus end of unit exams for some units.

    Clinical Skills for Community Pharmacists, Communication Skills and Professional Practice, Therapeutics, Response to Symptoms.

    Year 2
    Health Promotion in Community Pharmacy Practice, Primary Care and Community Pharmacy Practice, Advanced Therapeutics.

    Year 3
    Research methods/Research Practice, Strategic and Professional Development.
