Objectives
You will gain a comprehensive understanding of new and developing areas of civil engineering, and the ability to undertake related research, and evaluative and analytical tasks. You acquire the ability to apply analysis and design to relevant practical problems, and you will be able to demonstrate self-direction and originality in dealing with complex, open-ended, non-conventional problems

- You should have an Honours Degree in an appropriate subject - Or significant relevant industrial experience (which could be practical, theoretical, managerial, regulatory etc) in a related field, e.g. construction, geology or materials, together with an academic qualification equivalent to a least HNC/D

Summary
- This relevant, contemporary course develops your ability to apply and integrate undergraduate-level knowledge of civil engineering to deal with realistic practical situations
- You will create a programme of investigation, select appropriate methodology and undertake critical analysis to provide substantive conclusions
- The individual research project (postgraduate dissertation) provides you with an opportunity to conduct an in-depth, critical investigation of a topic with a view to contributing to the understanding of some facet of civil engineering
- You will have the benefit of working in newly-refurbished and completely re-equipped civil engineering laboratories
