Course description
The MSc by Research is offered in any of the areas in which members of staff in Music are competent to supervise (for further details, see Music entry under Research degrees). Members of staff have a wide range of research interests and students may propose projects in any area.
Learning Outcomes
Students will develop both breadth and depth of understanding in their chosen research area and will become equipped with skills in research techniques, critical analysis and writing and presentation skills, in order to make a critically aware and methodologically appropriate contribution to their field.
How You Will Be Taught
In consultation with their supervisor, students develop an individual programme of research that will result in either a 25,000-word dissertation or a portfolio of research-based project reports equivalent to 25,000 words. The programme also includes two taught research methods courses.
