Course descriptionProgramme
This is a research training programme designed both to enable students to deepen their knowledge of Economic and Social History in a social-science context and to develop a range of practical and theoretical research skills. It also aims to provide a solid foundation of research skills for students proceeding to a doctorate.
Learning Outcomes
The programme is designed to develop:
* an appreciation of the advanced literature in one or more areas of economic and social history;
* an ability to identify, initiate and complete a substantial piece of research in economic or social history, drawing on key concepts from the social sciences;
* a familiarity with historiography, historical explanation and research methods in history;
* an understanding of appropriate statistical, computing and other techniques relevant to data collection and analysis.
How You Will Be Taught
The programme combines lectures, seminars, tutorials, and computer-lab sessions. The skills and theory imparted in the research-training courses, along with many of the assignments, are designed to feed directly into the final dissertation work
