The MSc by Research in Celtic offers those with a degree in Celtic Studies the opportunity to deepen their understanding or extend their expertise while developing their research capabilities and adding technical skills appropriate to the branch of study they are engaged in. It also enables those with a qualification in an allied or cognate discipline to extend their expertise into a selected branch of Celtic Studies.
How You Will Be Taught
The first half of the year involves training in research methods and learning the practical, technical and theoretical skills appropriate to the chosen research area. The second half is spent writing a supervised dissertation utilising these skills and methods. A combination of traditional and innovative methods to impart research training are used. Students are encouraged to make direct contact with original sources and to gain hands-on experience, whether reading medieval manuscripts or in handling electronically stored data.
