ObjectivesThe programme aims to prepare students for a three-year PhD programme in biomedical research.
Entry requirementsEntry Requirements Students are expected to have a good degree in the biological sciences (at least UK level of 2:1 or the equivalent from non-UK universities). Students are required to have a good background in molecular biology, lab experience and training in multi-cellular biology. Students lacking in this background will not be eligible for the themes on developmental cell biology, infectious diseases, human genetics, cancer biology, and genetics and disease.
Course descriptionStudents will follow two research themes, undertake a summer maxi-project that involves preparing a grant application and take a set of transferable skills courses (eg presentation, scientific writing, project planning, research ethics).
Learning Outcomes
Students who complete this programme should acquire knowledge of two areas of biomedical research at postgraduate level, a wide range of biomedical laboratory techniques and gain valuable transferable skills.
How You Will Be Taught
Students on this course will take a hands-on approach and will be expected to lead seminars and undertake and write up research projects. Staff will help students become independent scientists. The degree is awarded on the basis of the portfolio of research project reports.
