MSc Advanced Speech and Language Therapy: Peninsula Postgraduate Health Institute
ObjectivesThe aim of this programme is to develop the critical awareness and thinking skills of speech and language therapists (SLTs) in order to enhance their ef?ciency, effectiveness and creativity in professional practice. The programme will also develop students’ understanding of current theory and research underpinning practice and enable critical review of theory, practice and management within SLT and relating to health and social care. Students will integrate research philosophy, procedures and evidence, in order to work at an expert level and contribute to the promotion and development of evidence-based clinical practice in speech and language therapy practice. The Masters in Advanced Speech and Language Therapy is supported and delivered by a team of academic speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. You will learn as a member of an inter-professional cohort and utilise an e-learning environment to share experiences. You will develop and apply research skills in the systematic investigation of a practice issue within your chosen setting. This programme offers a sociological perspective on the context of human communication research, and the opportunity to study clinical applications of current speech technology.
Entry requirementsEntry Requirements -Degree or diploma in speech and language therapy -At least two years professional experience Overseas students must be trained at a school recognised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and meet the Institute’s English language requirements.

Optional Modules
There are a range of optional modules, some speci?cally designed for practising speech and language therapists, and some part of a large pool of modules offered to health care professionals. Clinical Applications of Advances in Speech Technology will be offered as an option with provision for a personal electropalatography plate included in the cost.

On successful completion of the programme you will be able to:
-Deliver a modernised expert clinical service
-Demonstrate an understanding of the value of a sociological imagination for communication research
-Use appropriate research methods to investigate and evaluate practice and service provision
-Develop expert knowledge and practice in speech and language therapy within an inter-professional context.
There will be an entry cohort every two years.
