Entry requirements
A UK honours degree or equivalent in sport science or a relevant discipline such as psychology. Other qualifications and experience are welcomed. Applications are also invited from mature students with non-traditional qualifications. International students will need IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 560 or CB TOEFL 220, although other English language qualifications may be taken into consideration.

Modules
This research-based postgraduate degree has been designed to provide a balance between taught modules and research components. Uniquely, the MRes Sport Science degree allows students to complete a substantial project of their choice that is essentially designed and developed by them, which enables the student to become a leading authority in their chosen area.

An MRes is made up of a total of 180 credit points, of which 120 credit points are obtained from a research project, supported by 60 credit points of taught material.

Your research project can be in any area related to the specialist pathways, and is not restricted to the cited specialist pathways, For example, projects could be based on one or more of the following:

How do you study?
The MRes course can be completed in one year on a full-time basis or in two years on a part-time basis. The taught modules are delivered by a combination of lectures, laboratory sessions, seminars and tutorials. The Research Project will involve the design, implementation and evaluation of a major research task.
Pioneering research
The University has strong ties to national and international sporting bodies and institutions throughout the sporting community. These include England Hockey, Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre, the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences and the British Olympic Association.
Internationally leading research is currently undertaken in areas such as exercise in extreme environments, physical activity and related factors for quality of life, respiratory physiology, and high-intensity intermittent exercise.
