  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Applicants for entry must meet the following criteria: A masters degree or a good honours degree or equivalent And For applicants whose first language is not English or whose first degree was not taught in English, 6.0 IELTS or equivalent. (Candidates without this may be given a conditional offer provided that they complete English classes at Hull prior to entry and raise their level to achieve a 6.0 IELTS or equivalent).   • Course description The MRes programme provides relevant skills and knowledge for those students who wish to develop a solid understanding of research methods and philosophies, and is an excellent foundation for those wishing to pursue a PhD.

    In addition, the MRes is interdisciplinary in nature and provides a self-contained opportunity for valuable training and research for students who may not wish to proceed to a higher research degree, but who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills that are increasingly demanded in the labour market. The degree will be of value to people anticipating a career as a leader in the public or private sector; as a researcher; or as a professional educator.

    On completing the degree, students will be able to:

    -critically evaluate key contemporary debates in business and management;
    -independently research, synthesise and review current literature in business and management;
    -understand the principles of research design and how to devise research questions in business and management;
    -employ a wide range of methods of data gathering and analysis appropriate to different research contexts;
    -critically appraise various theoretical and methodological approaches in business and management;
    -understand the wide range of epistemological perspectives in business and management for the conduct of different types of research;
    -possess a range of generic skills that they can transfer into future academic or non-academic contexts.

    The MRes is a one year programme which consists of 120 credits of taught research training modules and a 60 credit research dissertation module. (At Hull, 1 credit is equivalent to 10 hours of study time, whether this involves class contact, assessment preparation, or independent study.)
