Course description
Programme description
- Participation in an exciting master's programme devoted to the politics of contemporary Europe.
- Training in social-science research methods.
- Dissertation supervision by leading scholars in European Studies.
The degree provides an advanced introduction to major topics in the study of contemporary European politics and society and enhances students' capacity critically to evaluate different theoretical perspectives on European politics and society and to evaluate them critically and engage in empirical research that tests them.
The programme is constructed to meet the requirements of the Economic and Social Research Council for master's level training for students seeking to pursue PhD research in the social sciences: it is our intention to apply for ESRC recognition at the first opportunity.
The MRes combines an interdisciplinary core course on modern European history and politics, an optional course chosen from a wide range of courses in the same area and compulsory courses in social science research methods. It builds on the success of our MA in European Studies, and draws on its courses. It is part of our highly successful and expanding European Studies programme and benefits from a core staff of young, energetic and well-published lecturers.
