ObjectivesTo provide a critical knowledge and understanding of both public health and health services research. To help students critically analyse the current evidence base related to public health and health care problems and develop practical solutions. To help students undertake high quality health services research and apply findings to public health practice.
Entry requirementsEntry requirements Upper second class Honours degree in a related discipline and preferably some experience or knowledge of either health services research or public health. Students with English as a second language need to have achieved the University requirement of IELTS 7.0.

Designed for the academic and professional training needs of health services and public health researchers nationally and internationally.
Course content
Core units, including:
-Needs assessment, planning and economic evaluation
-Epidemiology
-Research methods
-Introduction to statistics
-Further methods in the design and analysis of health technology assessment
-Qualitative research design and analysis
-Systematic Reviews and Critical Appraisal
-Dissertation.
Optional units, including:
Advanced Economic Evaluation
-Promoting evidence based healthcare
Uncredited sessions, which last year include:
-SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences)
-Academic writing
-Introduction to GIS modelling (Geographical information systems)
tudent led sessions (presentations, journal clubs, movie screenings etc)
Teaching
During normal working hours.
Part-time options include attendance on a one-day-per-week basis.
