Modelling Simulation & Control Master in Science -Postgraduate Diploma
Entry requirementsTo enter the course you need to have one of the following: * A good honours degree or an equivalent qualification in an engineerinng, computer science or mathematical subject * A relevant professional qualification of equivalent standard
Academic titleModelling Simulation & Control Master in Science /Postgraduate Diploma
Course descriptionThis is a new course developed in recognition of the need for companies to invest in increased knowledge and use of computer-based advanced modelling and simulation in the search for realisable control system solutions. The course brings together the disciplines of modelling of engineering systems and design via simulation of effective control systems. It offers you the opportunity to develop and extend your ability to understand and apply state-of-the-art concepts in advanced design via simulation by providing:
Typical career opportunities include positions as systems modellers, project engineers, systems integrators, technical specialists, and real-time computer and control engineers in a wide variety of industrial and commercial organisations as well as in academia.
Graduates may apply for membership of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, the Institute of Measurement and Control and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
Course content
You will study core modules in digital computer control systems; fault detection in control systems; genetic algorithms; linear control engineering; mathematics and computing for control; neural networks and fuzzy logic; and simulation of systems, together with three optional modules. You will also complete an individual project for the MSc. The course duration is one year. You will normally have a first degree or equivalent in any engineering or physical science discipline with a good mathematical content.
