Objectives
To provide a flexible programme of targeted education tailored to suit individual student needs. To build on participants’ existing experience, knowledge and domain speciality. To develop each student’s critical faculties, analytical abilities and intellectual curiosity. To locate an international perspective among contemporary midwifery and childbearing issues and provide a forum for debate.

Entry requirements
Entry requirements Good first degree or equivalent. Applicants with other qualifications or relevant experience are encouraged to contact Dr Mark Hayter (see 'Contact' below). We encourage entrants with non-standard qualifications and will consider each application in the light of its merit and the requirements of the profession. A relevant professional qualification is preferred but not essential. Applicants whose first language is not English are required to take a suitable test, such as IELTS, minimum score 6.5; TOEFL, minimum score 575, plus a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English, or minimum 232 in the computer-based TOEFL. You will need access to a suitable computer, with CD-ROM drive and internet connection.

Course description
Maternity Care - MMedSci
This programme will be taught entirely over the internet. Having no residential requirements, it is suitable for participants based anywhere in the world.
It is also available as a Diploma and Certificate.
Students on this programme will be taught together with students from the Master of Midwifery programme.
Course content
Core modules:
-Becoming a reflective practitioner
-Contemporary issues in midwifery
-Managing change in midwifery/maternity care
-Research methodology
-Research design and application
Optional modules:
-Antenatal screening and genetics
-Midwifery/maternity care for high-risk clients
-Women’s health and childbearing
-Diversity in maternal and neonatal health
Non-taught component:
An original piece of research in an area relevant to the student's interests leading to a dissertation.
Assessment
Written essays submitted in each module, plus a research dissertation
