This programme exploits the specific research expertise of members of staff. It accommodates those wishing to build on undergraduate study of analytical philosophy so as to acquire a deeper, and more specialised, understanding of contemporary analytical treatments of core problems in philosophy of language and moral philosophy. In particular, it accommodates those wishing to prepare for doctoral research on a specific philosophical topic pertaining to one of these disciplines. It is particularly appropriate for those wishing to focus on problems of meta-ethics and the nature of value.
Content
You will take six taught courses and then write a dissertation under supervision.
The courses taken in the first semester are:
* Research methods (1) * Moral philosophy (1)
* Philosophy of language (1).
Those taken in the second semester are:
* Research methods (2) * Moral philosophy (2)
* Philosophy of language (2).
Although Research methods (1) and (2) include some general elements, mostly they are philosophy-specific.
