Midwifery MSc/Diploma

Entry requirements Candidates should be qualified midwives with a minimum of one year’s experience. They should normally hold a relevant first degree (preferably upper second classification). Other suitable candidates may be considered, but will be required to complete successfully a research module at level 3, prior to commencing Master’s level study. (Up to 30 level 3 credits may be used towards accumulation of credits for the Master’s award). For those students whose first language is not English, the following qualification is also required: * IELTS: 7:0

Course description Course overview

This course enables midwives to deepen their understanding of the context of childbirth and current issues in midwifery practice. It supports the development, evaluation and implementation of evidencebased practice and policy. It will enable the application of advanced skills of information and knowledge management for the promotion of health and well being of childbearing women and their families. A wide range of optional modules enable students to devise a course addressing their development needs in the light of the NHS KS Framework.

Employment opportunities

Study on this course will increase the depth and breadth of your knowledge about midwifery practice and policy and consolidate your skills of critical appraisal, strategic planning and evaluation. It will provide a foundation for undertaking posts which involve staff leadership, practice development and policy formulation.

Course content

The range of modules offer great flexibility, enabling students to select combinations of modules geared towards specialised areas of interest such as management or public health.

Professional placement and study abroad

A work placement is not required for the MSc Midwifery. All assessments must be focused on issues in midwifery practice. Those choosing clinical modules must be registered with the NMC and be working clinically within a healthcare setting.
