Academic titleMental Health Practice MSc
Course descriptionCourse description
This programme combines academic study and practice development in a series of teaching and learning units that are designed to stimulate and challenge practitioners from a variety of professional backgrounds. Focus is on the development and integration of knowledge and skills and enables course participants to continue learning through practice once the programme is completed, whatever their future career direction. The MSc should enable staff to move into senior posts in either practice development, management or service planning and evaluation.
The Masters programme is also a useful introduction to more specialised therapeutic training in, for example, family therapy, psychotherapy or cognitive behaviour therapy. The programme not only provides instruction in therapeutic principles underlying these methods but also a model for supervision and staff development based on reflective appraisal of day to day therapeutic activity.
Additional course information
Students who do not have a current practice base will be expected to find one since exposure to mental health practice is a key requirement of the programme.
Location of teaching
Teaching takes place on the central university site. Most students will have access to a practice base through their current employment and their agency activities will contribute part of the focus in practice development. Students who do not have a current practice base will be helped to locate one in Greater Manchester.
