MEd Additional Support for Learning (Pastoral Care and Behaviour Support)
ObjectivesIt aims to: * offer a challenging and intellectually stimulating programme relevant to the personal and social needs of all learners as well as those with additional support needs; * develop practical skills and strategies and encourage reflection of theory, practice and research relevant to pastoral care and behaviour support; * challenge attitudes and opinions of participants; * promote a commitment to valuing all learners and their families as of equal worth and worthy of dignity and respect.
Entry requirementsEntry Requirements Normally a good honours degree (2:1), or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Employment or relevant educational experience will also be considered. Teaching qualification; GTC registration for Scottish school teachers. TOFE for Further Education teachers. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet the College language requirements.

Course descriptionLearning Outcomes
Course members should be able to develop a critical view that recognises the social construction of disruptive behaviour in schools and at the same time acknowledge the real difficulties faced by some learners. They should also become familiar with, and implement a range of approaches to, assessment, teaching and supporting learners considered to be disaffected, as well as approaches that aim to support the generality of pupils.
How You Will Be Taught
Learning is delivered through lectures, seminars, small-group discussions and skill-development sessions. An emphasis will be placed on experiential learning and course members will be encouraged to share feelings and experiences, with opportunities being presented for the practice and review of relevant skills.
