Entry requirementsEntry requirements: For 2008/9, the standard academic entry requirements for a Masters programme (either taught or research) will be a Lower Second UK honours degree, or international equivalent, in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
Academic titleMechanical Engineering Design MSc
Course descriptionCourse description
The MSc course combines elements of engineering analysis with design synthesis to develop problem solving ability. The combination of creative thinking and in-depth engineering analysis to demonstrate feasibility is a feature developed by the course. The programme focuses on the development of concepts to a mature engineering level, proving feasibility using modern computational methods - this is the current philosophy in the design field. The ability to design large multi-function engineering systems or structures and components, made from different materials, under complex loading, is of fundamental importance. Design problems of these types are particularly challenging and interesting and form a major area of study on the programme.
