ObjectivesThe course provides an opportunity to study multimedia applications, acquire multimedia skills and develop an understanding of the issues affecting individuals, organisations and society. It has been designed to take account of business, public administration and consumer needs, and takes an inter-disciplinary approach to identifying and exploiting new opportunities for multimedia systems. We aim to help you understand the issues, develop the skills, and gain the level of understanding of developments in multimedia technology and applications necessary to work effectively in the industry or to progress to PhD research. The course attracts those who wish to move into multimedia, those who seek credibility in a field in which they already find themselves working, or those who seek employment in a fast-moving and developing industry, where there is scope for variety, and potential to be both creative and entrepreneurial.
Entry requirementsYou should have a good Honours degree in any discipline and demonstrate an existing interest in multimedia and an acceptable level of computer literacy. Applications from those with no first degree but who have previous appropriate experience may also be considered.

The course comprises the following modules:

-Stakeholder-oriented Applications
-Sector-oriented Applications
-A final application development project
The taught modules are evenly divided into three streams: authoring skills, theoretical issues and applications. More than half of the course is devoted to practical work designing and developing multimedia applications.
The final project is a major individual piece of work for a real client, and consists of the design and development of a multimedia application, together with associated project documentation. It may be undertaken away from the University and may also be taken part time.

Typical employment opportunities include account managers; freelance workers; multimedia authors, designers and project managers; technical support; research projects; start-up companies. Graduates can also undertake higher academic study, such as PhD.
