Master Interprofessional Education

  • Objectives Professionals in health and social services need to work collaboratively in order to be effective in their work and to serve the needs of their patients and clients. A core principle of this course is to enable and promote interprofessional learning to foster interprofessional working. It is aimed at people working in health and social care who have a responsibility for managing and delivering continuing professional development.
  • Entry requirements You should have at least two years' work experience in a multi-professional setting (within or across sectors, eg in health and social care) and either have an Honours degree or evidence of ability to work at postgraduate level. You will be interviewed and also be expected to submit an essay that provides a critique of a prescribed article relevant to interprofessional education and training work and that demonstrates your ability to critically apply content to their practice. Fluency in writen and spoken English is a prerequisite for the course. If you have not been taught in English during your secondary or tertiary education you are required to achieve an overall minimum score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

    In work with colleagues from different professions, you will have the opportunity to relate you learning experiences to current government policies for the NHS and social care that promote life-long learning. Modules foster learning about good practice and research in interprofessional learning and teaching; they are based on reflective and pragmatic approaches to practice. You will be able to apply and integrate theoretical models explored in the course into their current work scenarios.

    The Postgraduate Certificate focuses on themes of leadership derived from real issues generated in practice, so that your professional development clearly links with your working life. Practical experience is linked to the literature, and relevance to professional education in the health and social care sectors is examined. The London Postgraduate GP Deanery has been involved in the development of the course, modelling the core interprofessional values of the overall Masters programme.
