  • Objectives The aim of the programme is to produce an advancing practitioner who can: * enhance the quality and standard of patient care * develop into an enquiring and reflective clinician * expand the professional boundaries of clinical practice as a result of increased theoretical knowledge, interprofessional working and supervised practice * implement service developments and clinical practice via teaching, supervision, clinical audit, research and project management * adopt a pro active approach to continuing professional development * develop enhanced nurse-patient and carer relationships * respond to the changing demands of health care practice * influence the strategic direction of patient care within one’s own field of practice at local and national level.
  • Entry requirements * The programme is open to applicants who hold Registerable qualifications as a Nurse or paramedic. * Applicants must have studied to BSc level or equivalent * Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years full time experience or equivalent in the field of practice they wish to study, and 2 years route specific experience and some autonomy in role responsibilties * It is desirable to hold qualifications or have studied health assessment skills or pass the university assessment (observed structured clinical examination). * Applicants whose first language is not English are normally required to have IELTS>6.5, TOEFL computer based test >250 (Academic Regulations 2.7)

  • Course description This programme has been developed to meet the needs of health care practitioners (predominantly Nurses and Paramedics) who wish to expand their practice, to be recognised as “Advancing Practitioners”.

    The programme can be studied on a part time (2 – 5 years)  or full time basis (18 months). The mode of delivery is via blended learning approaches (face to face, online and practice placements)
