  • Entry requirements Students should hold at least a second class Honours Degree in Psychology or a related field from a British university or a degree or qualification deemed to be at least of equivalent standing. Students whose first language is not English must demonstrate a satisfactory command of written and spoken English. For international students this is demonstrated by an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher overall, but with no score below 6.0

    These programmes provide specialist training and practical experience in psychological research methods, as well as promoting skills for career and professional development. They are ideal for students interested in a career in research, or those whose existing careers would be advanced by specialised training in research methods. They are also an excellent foundation for studies at the PhD level.

    Outline of programme

    The Masters in Psychological Research Methods enables the student to specialise in one of the following areas:

        * Cognitive Neuroscience
        * Neuroimaging
        * Nutrition and Behaviour
        * Qualitative Methods
        * Sensory and Perceptual Systems

    The courses are based around a core of six compulsory modules that provide detailed study and practical experience in research design and analysis and in the development of professional skills. These include:

        * Advanced Methods in Psychological Research
        * Advanced Research Design and Analysis
        * Advanced Statistics
        * Communication Skills in Research and Teaching
        * Professional Development
        * Research Rotations

    Students also choose an advanced topics module and a series of research practicals in one of the four core areas. These courses provide further in-depth and advanced training in the student’s chosen research specialism. Students also complete a dissertation project under the supervision of a research mentor.

    Assessment

    The courses are assessed by a mixture of coursework, examinations, practical work, oral and written presentations and the dissertation project.
