  • Objectives A creative fashion design masters course to develop you as an entrepreneur, with a "major" in design and a "minor" in new media for fashion: photography, video or interactivity & web. This dynamic opportunity is for the fashion designer who may be interested in the virtual catwalk, product placement, photo-campaign, in-store video, smart calling cards, interactive multimedia here at last is a chance for fashion designers to design as well as use their creativity to promote their work and get it seen in the right places, by the right people. Bringing together our expertise in fashion design, contemporary visual media and business enterprise, this dynamic course has been developed in response to demands from the fashion industry for designers who are able to work with photography, video and interactive media, in order to promote their work and create new visual contexts for their collections. The emphasis of the course is on originality and creativity. It is intended for designers who, while developing their own work, also wish to learn to operate as successful entrepreneurs. You will be given a set of survival strategies ,which today's designers and fashion companies need in order to evolve and perform successfully in the international arena. The MA also aims to challenge the overpowering focus of the catwalk and glossy magazine. It will invite you to consider innovative approaches to exhibition, exploring new methodologies for showing, creating environments and displaying concepts as well as collections, new ways of seeing as well as new clothes to see. By the end of the course, you will not only have developed a body of work to convince prospective employees, backers or clients of your talents, but will also have a toolkit of knowledge related to royalties, finance, global legal considerations, contractual agreements, sales , public relations and production.

    Course Structure
     
    The course is a Masters Degree, one year full-time, based on the University of Westminster 180 credit framework. Students, who do not or are unable to complete the Masters programme, may be eligible to claim an intermediate award.

    A Post Graduate Certificate is awarded after the completion of the first 60 credits, the Post Graduate Diploma after 120 credits and the MA after 180 credits.

    This mode will require attendance of a minimum of 2 days a week with independent study time of an additional 20 hours a week which may or may not be at the University depending on the student's access to facilities away from the University and the nature of their programme of study.  This mode is not suitable for those working full-time unless their daily work practice is equivalent to the creativity modules, i.e. unless they are practicing designers already creating fashion pieces or collections within their own studio.
