  • Objectives New media and new technologies have caused a sea change in the way information is managed. In the twenty-first century, the information professional is as likely to be managing databases, digital collections or intranets as they are traditional resources. With this technological explosion have come new opportunities for information professionals across the world. The MSc Digital Information Management combines the expertise of London Metropolitan's Information Management and Digital Media specialists to provide a firm foundation of professional knowledge for the digital age. The course combines the theoretical and practical elements necessary to build a career in the information profession, with a focus on developing and managing digital collections and resources. Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, the course provides a first step towards a career in this vibrant and fast-changing aspect of information work.
  • Entry requirements The minimum entry requirement will normally be a lower second class Honours degree. Applicants will also be considered who have a relevant professional qualification and/or extensive relevant experience, gained in a library, information or digital environment.

  • Course description Course structure
    The course consists of four core taught modules, two optional modules and a dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words.

    The taught core modules include:

    -Digital Information Principles
    -Information Architecture
    -New Media Management
    -Applied Information Research

    You then select two optional modules from the following:

    -Digital Libraries
    -Managing an Intranet/Extranet Project
    -E-Solutions

    You will also be required to produce a dissertation of 12-15,000 words on a topic of relevance to digital information management.

    Assessment
    A range of assessment methods are used including written reports and projects. Both practical and theoretical elements are included in assessments, including creating web resources and interactive presentations.

    Full-time: one year, 2 days a week
    (Monday and Friday)
