Master Accounting and Finance

  • Objectives Taught in the heart of one of the world's major financial capitals, this course has been specifically designed for those in accounting and finance who want to keep pace with today's rapidly changing business environment, or those wishing to move into this pivotal sector of the economy. The course takes a strategic look at current issues in the financial world, providing you with a range of skills, including the ability to critically analyse financial data and weigh up issues, and relate these to developments and shifts within the industry. The course provides a sound foundation for those seeking progression in a managerial or professional role, or for those wishing to undertake further postgraduate studies in a doctorate programme.
  • Entry requirements At least a lower second BA/BSc Honours degree (UK or equivalent standard) in accounting and/or finance. Credit transfer is possible if there is evidence that material covered in prior study, which meets the learning outcomes of the MSc module(s), and has been satisfactorily assessed to Masters level.

  • Course description Course Structure

    You will take five core modules, an optional module and a dissertation of around 15,000 words.

    The core modules are:

    -Advanced Financial Reporting
    -Strategic Financial Management
    -International Business Finance and Investment
    -Research Methods in Accounting and Finance
    -Strategic Management: Control and Appraisal

    You also choose one of the following optional modules:

    -Mergers and Acquisitions
    -Corporate Strategy
    -Corporate Governance and Accountability
    -Strategic Information Management

    Assessment
    A range of assessment methods are used including coursework, presentations, research projects, examinations and a written dissertation.

    Career opportunities
    Successful completion of this masters programme should give you improved career opportunities in industry or professional practice in the areas of accounting, financial management and financial services. The programme is also excellent preparation for further research or study.
     
    Attendance and duration

    -Full-time: one year, two or three days per week
    -Part-time: two years, one or two days per week
    Note: one of the optional (designate) modules is currently only available in the evening
