  • Objectives The course offers knowledge and expertise to develop students’ evaluative, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and to increase their practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of managing care in perioperative practice, so that they can apply these skills in the further advancement of care in this field.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements:

    Suitable for healthcare professionals working in the field of perioperative practice, including Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) and Registered Nurses (RNs).

    Students admitted to the course should be in possession of:

    Either a first degree or a UK diploma in the relevant field.

    Normally, two years of fieldwork/clinical education.

  • Course description Course Description:

    The Programme is offered in full-time and part-time modes for students wishing to achieve the MSc award. Full-time students normally complete the Programme in two years with part-time students taking up to four years. The modular structure of the programme allows students to select the most appropriate profession-specific modules and shared or generic modules from a suite of modules within the postgraduate provision of the School of Healthcare Studies. To be awarded the MSc in Managing Care in Perioperative Practice, students need to complete the two, shared, compulsory modules (total 90 M-level credits) and at least two profession specific modules (minimum 60 credits). The remaining 30 credits can be made up of either another profession-specific module or one or more shared or generic modules available within the MSc suite of optional modules.

    To be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate, students need to complete the Research Methods in Health and Social Care module (30 credits) and at least one profession-specific module (30 credits). To be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma, students need to complete Research Methods in Health and

    Social Care module (30 credits) and at least two profession-specific modules (60 credits). The remaining 30 credits can be made up of either another profession specific module or one or more shared or generic modules available within the MSc suite of optional modules.
