MA Town and Regional Planning

  • Objectives To provide you with the required knowledge and skills to enter the planning profession, To develop knowledge of the economic, political, social and environmental factors which shape cities and rural areas, To develop research, policy-making and design skills, To develop an understanding of the application of research in public policy-making and evaluation, To develop a deeper knowledge of a selected specialist aspect of planning.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Good Honours degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate subject. International students must also have a suitable language qualification such as TOEFL (minimum score 600 with 5 in TWE (paper-based)) or IELTS (minimum score 7 with at least 6 in each component).

  • Course description Town and Regional Planning - MA

    The department is one of the first to offer a one-year Royal Town Planning Institute-accredited Masters.

    The course is aimed at students from a wide range of backgrounds who intend to enter the planning profession. There are also opportunities for study in Europe.

    Autumn Semester

    -Spatial planning systems
    -perspectives on spatial planning and development
    -values in planning
    -research methods

    Spring Semester

    -Integrated project
    -choice of two specialist option modules from a list of 14 (including Issues in Private Housing, Local and Regional Economic Policy, Community Economic Development, Sustainable Transport Policy, Cities of Diversity, Public Participation).

    Summer Semester

    Dissertation
