  • Course description This course focuses on using arts as part of the healing process in healthcare settings. It is not an arts therapy course, it is about creative work in the healthcare environment. This includes design and decor, artworks and working with patients in all art forms.

It is for creative subject graduates who wish to work in this growing field or in its management. It is also suitable for healthcare professionals who wish to use arts in their field of practice.

This is widespread in British healthcare with many healthcare trusts offering arts as part of their service. In other parts of the world the field is also growing, often drawing on the UK models.

On this course you learn how to harness creative practice to the needs of the specialist healthcare setting, learning about the scope of the arts sector and their often inspirational use in this context.

You also gain skills in the practicalities and ethics of arts in health such as fundraising, exhibition selection and management, and research and evaluation skills.

We provide you with a work placement in a local hospital arts project over at least a six week period. During this time you have support from project and University staff.
