ObjectivesThis two-year part-time programme aims to develop in students the appropriate skills and knowledge needed to perform effectively in a Personnel and Development role and achieve graduate membership of their Professional Institute. In this way, the career prospects of its graduates will be enhanced. Graduates of this programme will receive the dual awards of a Masters degree and Graduateship of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. LJMU is a chartered Membership Upgrading Centre recognised by CIPD for the process of upgrading appropriate students directly to Chartered Membership on completion of the programme. Employing organisations will benefit from the application of appropriate skills and knowledge by graduates of the programme to their organisation. The programme aims to develop in students the capacity and motivation to continuously develop throughout their careers. The programme has been designed around two stages, the taught input and the dissertation stage.
Entry requirementsApplicants would normally be graduates working in a HR related role, who have the CIPD Leadership and Management qualification, (LJMU Postgrad Certificate in Business Management).

TAUGHT INPUT STAGE
The taught input stage consists of six modules, running in three blocks of
two modules from September in year one to December of year two.
The modules are:
- Managing Resources
- Managing Performance
- Managing Development
- Managing Relations
- Personnel and Development Strategy
- Research Design Methodologies
The above modules ensure coverage of the following CIPD electives (as
well as People Management and Development).
- Employee Resourcing
- Management Development
- Employee Relations
- Performance Management
DISSERTATION STAGE
This consists of a series of research support group meetings supported
by individual tutor interviews which build upon the Research Design
Methodologies module.
Assessment
Assessment for all ‘taught input’ stage modules (with the exception of
Research Design Methodologies) consists of one two hour examination
and one piece of coursework. The assessment for the Research design
Methodologies module relates to the submission of an appropriate
research proposal. Students are required to maintain continuous
professional development logs throughout the programme. Assessment
for the dissertation module is based upon a 20,000 word dissertation and
a personal reflection on learning
