Course descriptionThe content of the MA Marketing (Digital Media) programme is focused on issues and concepts associated with marketing and digital media. Students completing the programme will have developed analytical and reflective views of marketing and digital media related applications, systems and concepts. They will be able to discuss issues concerning the application and deployment of digital media applications with marketing professionals.
It will appeal to those who are currently working, or aspire to work in the areas of marketing, media and digital technology. The aim of this programme is to foster an awareness of the current practices related to digital media marketing and to give students first hand experience of the issues which are prevalent in today’s digital media marketing environment. This will underpin their professional and career development and will better equip them for working in today’s marketing environment. MA Marketing (Digital Media) will help students to develop their subject knowledge, understanding and skills so that they are better placed to develop their careers.
The programme develops both knowledge of and practical experience involving the design, development and implementation of digital media marketing applications. Whilst emphasis is placed upon academic theory and related models, practical work in design, development and project management forms the foundation upon which these theories may be applied. The aim is NOT to develop advanced technical programming skills; it is to develop an understanding of the contexts and constraints within which these media are developed and used in a marketing environment.
MA Marketing (Digital Media) is a taught programme, delivered over two semesters. This is followed by a period of independent study during which students are required to complete a practical project.
There is both an academic and vocational aspect of this programme. Students will be required to study a series of core units in both semesters, with the emphasis upon the development of particular systems analysis, design and application skills. In semester one students examine issues concerning systems design and then in semester two use these skills to develop a prototype digital media application. Students will use case software and authoring tool
